RHA members dominate MT awards
Mike Beer Transport Limited wins Motor Transport's top award of haulier of the year, and was one of seven other RHA members who tasted success at the packed awards ceremony held in London.
The Dover based company fought off stiff opposition from Knights of Old and Samworth Brothers Distribution to land the honours.
The award was presented to Mike Beer by comedian Brian Connolly and news presenter Mary Nightingale at the Grosvesnor House Hotel on London's Park Lane on Friday night.
Beer started his company thirty years ago with one truck and the company has now grown into a business with an annual turnover of £9.5 million operating 49 trucks and employing over 75 staff. Beer told ROADWAY: 'This is the top industry award. You have no idea what it means to us, its fantastic. We will just keep going forward from now on.'
The training award went to Wm Armstrong (Longtown) Ltd. The company was recognised for the work it has done developing young people through its Driving Goods Vehicle Apprenticeship.
The award for the best livery of the year went to The RH Group. Managing director, Ian Baxter, collected the award for the distinctive new green livery aimed at raising the company's profile and making its vehicles more recognisable across Europe.
St Helens-based Suttons Group scooped the award for safety in operation, beating off challenges from The Comet Group and Parceline. The award for the best partnership went to the Lane Group's partnership with kitchen and bedroon suppliers Magnet Ltd.
The rest of the awards were as follows: Customer care - ANC Express. Efficiency in operation - Rugby Logistics. Dealer of the year - Iveco dealer, North East Truck & Van. Fleet engineer of the year - Alan Morrison of ANC Express. Local Hero - Driver Andy Cannon of Royal Mail. Fleet Van of the year - Iveco Daily. Fleet driver of the Year - Phil Rose of ACR Logistics for B&Q. Fleet truck of the year - Mercedes-Benz Axor.
