DfT’s freight transport energy and environment advice guidance to be handled by Faber Maunsell
Transport consultancy Faber Maunsell has been awarded a three-year contract to manage the freight element of the TransportEnergy BestPractice Programme. The appointment was made by the Department for Transport, which funds the programme.

The programme promotes operational efficiency measures to owners and drivers of freight vehicles. It aims are to reduce CO2 emissions by helping operators in the freight sector to reduce fuel consumption and maximise fleet efficiency.

The programme provides a one-stop-shop for information to improve freight operational efficiency and to reduce the environmental impact of freight movement. The programme's key outputs include free freight best practice publications designed to help operators of all sizes and across all sectors to run their fleets more efficiently.

Faber Maunsell has a track record of providing freight management services, for both public and private sectors, ranging from planning, engineering design, financial appraisals through to operational procedures and identifying best practice.

Jonathan James, programme director, says: ‘We are delighted to have been appointed to run this important programme. We look forward to the challenge of showing how freight operators can save themselves money and do their bit to tackle the problems associated with CO2 emissions.’ Jonathan added: ‘We have a tremendous head start as I, programme manager Chris Douglas and the rest of the team have worked within the freight industry.’

The team has also been boosted by the appointment of John Hix, who joined FaberMaunsell from the Freight Transport Association.
