Fork lift drivers targeted for safety refresher

Road transport training organisation RTITB has launched a series of warehouse (and beyond) safety courses on CD-Rom. The first to be produced is aimed at fork-truck drivers and is entitled 3rd Level.

The series comprises:

Level 1: Training, a series of warehouse scenarios are played to the user with accompanying training audio. The user is shown good practice and possible hazardous situations.

Level 2: 3 Assessments, warehouse scenarios are played to the user. The user this time must identify possible hazardous situations by pressing the space bar on the keyboard. Each response is logged against a pre-determined set of model answers.

Level 3: Feedback, 3rd level is unique in providing feedback of any missed hazards. The missed hazard is played again along with training clip and audio.

The RTITB claims that the programmes create realistic 3D job simulations in a warehouse environment. Realistic audio enhances the simulation of a work place.

Once uploaded to a PC, 3rd Level is stored safely without risk of damage or decreasing quality.

The organisation says that CD-Roms reduce training costs, are self paced, highly interactive and studies show that users experience an increased retention when training with a CD-Rom.

Employers like to test the capability of their operators before they get in the truck, decreasing the risk of workplace incidents. 3rd Level can also be used as a focused regular refresher course, increasing employee competence and employer confidence.

3rd Level is available through RTITB's network of training centres and instructors. Go online to view the 3rd Level supplier list at www.rtitb.co.uk or call 01952 520218. To view a live clip of 3rd Level visit www.thirdlevel.co.uk
