MAN to launch new 18 tonner at RAI
MAN will launch a new 18 tonner, Euro 4 and 5 engines and a new 'cost effective' long distance cab for its TGA at the Amsterdam RAI Show on October 14
The new TGM range, which will cover the 18-tonne sector and will have
eight wheelbases from 3,575 to 6,175mm allowing for body lengths from
3.9 to 8.1 metres. The truck is offered with three cabs and there is a
choice of leaf or air suspension on the rear axle.
The new range will be introduced from spring 2006 as an 18-tonne 4x2 vehicle. MAN says that further versions will follow in the course of next year replacing the ME2000 range. Common Rail engines from the D08 range, rated at 240 hp, 280 hp and 326 hp, power the new TGM. These six-cylinder in-line units develop high torque at low speeds. MAN says this has a positive effect when moving off and in the low noise generation. The distinctive feature of the most powerful version is a two-stage turbocharger.
MAN will also launch a new half-height, wide XLX cab designed as a spacious, comfortable but cost-effective option for international or long haul transport. It is equipped with the floor assembly of the 2.44 metre wide MAN TGA cabs while its height ranks between that of the well-known XL and XXL cabs. Another new standard addition to MAN's cabs is a multifunction steering wheel - with the exception of the M cab. With this steering wheel the driver can operate the cruise control system, constant braking system, radio/CD and telephone without having to take his hands off the steering wheel.
From spring 2006 the two most powerful engines - 400 and 436hp - in the D20 Common Rail range will be available at Euro 5 using SCR technology. MAN says it is working on 'no additive engines' geared towards the date of introduction of Euro 5. The use of SCR is a compromise while research and development is carried out. Continuing its Euro 4 engine rollout, from spring 2006 7.5- to 12-tonne trucks can be fitted with Euro 4 engines from the D08 range. The four-cylinder engines have ratings of 150 hp, 180 hp and 206 hp. The most powerful version in the MAN TGL is a six-cylinder engine with 240 hp. This engine and a 280 hp Euro 4 engine will be offered for the MAN TGM. MAN says it is also making ESP available for 6x2 semi trailer tractors with a leading axle.
