New Volvo, Renault, Deutz engine for Dennis Eagle
Dennis Eagle has announced it will use a new Volvo developed 7.12-litre engine at Euro 4. The engine supply partnership is being managed by Volvo Penta
Dennis Eagle has announced it is to work in an engine supply partnership with Volvo for Euro 4.
To meet the Euro 4 emissions legislation that comes into force in October next year, Dennis Eagle’s Elite chassis will feature a series of Volvo advanced technology diesel engines.
Dennis Eagle says it will be using the MD7 7.12-litre engine, which is being jointly developed by Volvo, and Renault Trucks. The engine will be built by Deutz from Volvo components and will use Renault designed electronic engine control architecture.
The news confirms months of speculation that Deutz will build a new engine for Volvo and Renault's 18 to 26-tonne ranges.
Due to the complexity of the engine project, the new supply agreement between Dennis Eagle and Volvo is being handled by AB Volvo’s specialist projects arm and marine engine supplier, Volvo Penta.
Commenting on behalf of Dennis Eagle, Managing Director of Commercial Operations, Norman Thoday said: ‘The decision to work in partnership with Volvo at Euro 4 was taken following an extensive evaluation of every single vehicle engine manufacturer in Europe. Not only are Volvo a premium truck manufacturer in their own right, they have an engine product range that will benefit our own customer base in terms of its proven reliability and through its ability to deliver greater power and torque ratings.’
Volvo Penta Europe’s new business Manager, Darren Tasker added: ‘We are delighted with the new agreement and to be closely connected with such a prominent force in the RCV industry. We believe that both organisations are particularly well matched and that it will result in the development of a successful and long-term relationship.’
Testing of the new engine range has already started at Dennis Eagle and is expected to continue for a period of twelve months. The company says that further details relating to the engine product offering for the Elite chassis will be announced when available.
