Phil wins top national CV driving award
Phil, of Hough Training in Belper, Derbyshire, won the title of Moto Road Star 2004 after a demanding test of driving skills in the final of the nationwide Road Stars competition that Moto ran in conjunction with the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM).
Phil was one of three SAFED Instructors, trained to deliver the DfT's Safe and Fuel Efficient Driver training, to reach the HGV grand final, which took place at the Driving Standards Agency's training ground in Cardington, Bedfordshire.
The other two SAFED instructors to reach the final were Dave Charnock of Tibbet & Britten in Runcorn, Cheshire, and Jim Thomson of Creative Training in Rugby.
Phil says: 'We had to do a 22-mile road course accompanied by an IAM examiner and then we had to demonstrate how well we could control the truck with a series of low-speed but very difficult manoeuvrability tests. It was hard work but great fun.'
