Keeping up with law

Document Actions
The autumn series of briefings featured six dates in November that gave members the chance to bring themselves up-to-date on the key issues.

Each event covered: Working time legislation - What hours count, and what action should you take? Start cutting fuel costs - can you make fuel savings through using best practice? Employment law - are you aware of the new statutory procedures from October 1? Drivers' hours - how will the new rules affect you? Driver recruitment - where will new LGV drivers come from?

We are delighted that TransportEnergy BestPractice supported these briefings. The organisation offers a range of free advice for truck operators and no one can afford to ignore the messages it offers. Do not forget, if the price of fuel goes down for any reason, customers will be looking for cuts in rates, but every penny you save by improved efficiency goes straight on your bottom line.

  • A new training programme for drivers was launched in Leeds recently, with RHA members J. Long & Sons (Haulage), Viamaster Transport, Bedfords, MacFarlane Transport and Leeds Waste Management all taking trainees. The programme will be repeated, and any member who is interested should contact the regional office.
  • Upgrading the A1 across Yorkshire is continuing, with more than 20 miles of new motorway under construction
